The Essence of Bodhicitta Mindset

In Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras,  there is a verse which says, “yogas citta vritti nirodha“, which refers to stilling the mind in order to experience the Ultimate Reality. Now, how to still the mind? There are external tornadoes and internal volcanos – physical and mental. How to bring sweetness in life? There is a pain body and a bliss body. How to drop the pain body and access the bliss body? To build effective Bodhicitta mindset, you need to cultivate and access the eternal bliss body, which is changeless, and from that foundation you can spared the light of compassion.

“There is a pain body and a bliss body. The pain body is the conscious experience with its neural correlates in the brain. However, the bliss body is the conscious experience with its Higher Self. ” — Amit Ray

You can access the Cosmic bliss body through love, compassion, forgiveness and gratitude.  When you can access the Cosmic bliss body, you can drop the pain body and cultivate the Bodhicitta. The selfish attitude gives power to the pain body but an expanded loving attitude gives power to the bliss body. Hence, compassion is the essence of the Bodhicitta mindset.

Five Attitudes of Bodhicitta

There are five attitudes of life to cultivate Bodhicitta. They are called maitri, karuna, mudita, upeksha, and citta prasadanam. There are four types of people. They are happy people, unhappy people, virtuous people, and the wicked people. At any given time, you can classify any person into one of these four categories. When you cultivate the attitudes of friendliness toward the happy, compassion for the unhappy, delight in the virtuous, and equanimity toward the wicked, the mind retains its undisturbed calmness. Citta prasadanam, means  a serene and peaceful mind.  Imagine

Cultivating a Witnessing Presence

When you identify yourself with the fluctuations of the mind, you can feel like a roller coaster ride of madness and the pain body gradually appears out of these identifications. When you identify deeply with your mind states, you can end up acting out of these thoughts through your daily behaviors. By cultivating the witnessing presence, you are less likely to affect by your thoughts and more likely to see them as ever-changing, flowing, and transient things.

Cultivating a Compassionate Interconnected Mindset

Interconnectedness is a fundamental principle of life. Everything needs something else, often a complex array of other things, to survive and thrive. Recent neuro-scientific evidence shows that our thoughts, movements and speech have a direct impact on those around us, consciously or not. With the discovery of mirror-neurons science can demonstrate how we are connected to the world and more importantly to each other.  Bodhicitta understand the dynamics of the whole and the parts at the same time.

Bodhicitta and the 72000 Nadis in the Body

There are 72000 nadis or energy channels in the body. You need to clean and remove the blockages of these 72000 nadis in the body so that the energy can flow smoothly and perfectly. When the nadis are obstacle free, bliss body arises, and the healing energy starts working.  There are six key nadis, energy channels in the body, which can activate, and cultivate the Bodhicitta mindset.

The three of them Karuna Nadi, PeedanTaka Nadi and the Vayapini Nadi.  When these six key nadis or energy channels in the body are activated they generate and spread spontaneous bliss and healing energy to the body and the world and then cultivation of Bodhicitta or compassionate mindset become easy, otherwise they will always drag you down.

“Unless you clean the 72000 nadis in the body, you cannot access the bliss body and cannot cultivate the perfect compassion for the whole world. Bodhicitta is the art of accessing the cosmic bliss body by walking on the path of prefect compassion.” — Amit Ray
