Navarati is the nine nights festival, celebrated in the autumn every year across India. Goddess Durga is worshiped during these nine days.  The celebration starts on the new moon day around autumn equinox in the month of September-October and it continued for nine nights (ten days). In this year it is starting from toady. It is the time to adore, to connect and to awaken the divine cosmic energy.

Durga the Goddess of Positive Energy

Devi Durga is the Goddess of self-confidence, enthusiasm and positive energy.  Goddess Durga is the combined energy of MahaParvati, MahaLakshmi and MahaSaraswati. Here the word Maha means greatest. Prvati means daughter of mountain. Like mountain, Goddess Durga is the giver of strength – physical strength, mental strength and spiritual strength. Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth, good luck, abundance and prosperity. Goddess Durga is the giver of wealth, abundance and good luck.  Saraswati is the goddess of knowledge, music, art, wisdom and learning. Goddess Durga is the giver of  wisdom, knowledge and high culture. 

Goddess Durga the Cosmic Mother

Goddess Durga is the Cosmic Mother – mother of all creations – full with love and compassion. The Goddess Durga represents all the three times of the past, present and future. She represents the three worlds: gross physical world, mental world and the transcendental cosmic world.  She resides in every atom in this universe in the form of material, energy and consciousness. At the highest state she is one with the primordial vibration OM. She is also one with Shiva – the essence of all auspiciousness. The Goddess has the power to transform all the negative energy of the universe into positive energy. She has the ultimate protection power. The Divine Cosmic Durga is the most auspicious one and the one who blesses all the worlds with prosperity and auspiciousness.

Prayer and the Divine Cosmic Self

Navaratri is the most suitable occasion for doing intense prayer and spiritual practices. Prayer during this period enlarge our heart until it is capable containing the grace and blessings of the Divine energy of love. It is difficult to pray if you don’t know how to pray, but we must help ourselves to pray. Essence of prayer is that it will not make you weak or dependent on any thing. You are praying to your Divine Cosmic Self. Goddess Durga is your Divine Cosmic Self. By prayer you are expanding your divinity across the whole universe.

The first means is to adore the Divine power of the Goddess Durga in Silence. The second means is to remember the essential presence of the Divine energy. The third means is to celebrate and chant the manta of the Goddess Durga – the Divine Cosmic Self.

“Sarva Mangala Mangalye Sive Sarvartha Sadhike
Saranye-Trayambike Gauri Narayani Namostute”
 
This mantra is from Devi Mahatyam which is part of Markandeya Purana. Here, the word “sarva” means in all way and the word “mangal” means prosperity, luck, fortune, auspiciousness, happiness and well-being. The meaning of this mantra is: Goddess Durga is the most auspicious among all the auspiciousness of the three world. She blesses all the worlds with prosperity and auspiciousness. Like a compassionate Mother she protects the three world and she is the daughter of the Mountain King when she incarnated as Gauri. She poses all the protective power of Narayan – the Cosmic God Consciousness. We bow down to the divine Mother with love.

Meaning of this Mantra:

I adore the Divine Cosmic Mother, you always resolved to protect your children who are weak and in crisis.  You remove their misery and add happiness to their existence. Oh, the omnipotent Goddess Durga, I pray you so that you bless me with all that I want. 

Mantra #4:  Grant Me the Best Things of Life 

Roopam dehi jayam dehi yasho dehi dwisho jahi

Meaning of Mantra #4: Oh Goddess, the destroyer of demons and egoistic thoughts. Grant me inner and outer beauty. Grant me freedom, victory, fame, and destroy and remove all hostility. Oh Goddess, remove all the obstacles of my life and grant me the best things of life. 

Meditation On Goddess Durga 

You can meditate on the light of Cosmic Energy of Love and mentally chant these mantras. During chanting you can remember the meaning of these mantra. Goddess Durga is considered as the “most beautiful among all beautiful things in the world.” Meditating the glory of Goddess Durga enhances our inner beauty and outer beauty. In meditation you can mentally chant the mantra Om Dum Durgayei Namaha”, which invokes the protecting power of the Divine Cosmic Power and removes all negative influences.  “Dum”  is the mantra of the manipura chakra. The Manipura Chakra is the center of vitality and power. This chakra is located at the solar plexus.  It balances the sun and the moon energies.
