“Normally life runs in a semi-unconscious mode. Bhramari om chanting can change that into a conscious mode.” – Sri Amit Ray
What Is Bhramari Om Chanting?
Bhramari (Sanskrit: भ्रामरी) means “humming bee.” In Bhramari Pranayama, the practitioner inhales deeply and exhales slowly while making a gentle humming sound, like a bee, often layered with the syllable “OM”.
🧘♀️ “Bhramari is the voice of your inner cosmos. In its hum, the brain chakras realign with the music of the universe.” — Sri Amit Ray
Mindset for Om Chanting:
Positive mind set, right attitude and good habits are the mark of conscious mind. When we act on “semi-unconscious” or “auto-pilot” mode our behavior tends to become repetitive. This is why we are generally unaware of our behavior, in fact most of the time we are not even aware that we are acting unconsciously. “Bhramari Om Chanting or Humming Om chanting sends positive messages to the brain and the cells in our body and can actually reprogram our health and behavior. Humming Om chanting is an effective method to increase the nitric-oxide in the nasal cavity. Nitric oxide has many health benefits. It increases immunity and fights against free radicals and chronic inflammatory diseases.
Why Practice Bhramari Om Chanting Daily?
Scientific studies show that Bhramari Chanting:
- Increases nitric oxide (NO) in the sinuses, enhancing brain oxygenation
- Stimulates the vagus nerve, improving heart rate variability and reducing stress
- Activates gamma and theta brain waves, promoting deep relaxation and access to altered states of consciousness
- Harmonizes the default mode network (DMN), improving focus and emotional regulation
When practiced with mindful intention, it resonates with the 28 brain chakras and leads to:
- Clarity of thoughts (Frontal and Prefrontal Chakras)
- Emotional balance (Amygdala and Limbic Chakras)
- Musical and verbal intelligence (Temporal and Auditory Chakras)
- Deep meditative absorption (Brainstem and Pineal Chakras)
Practice of Humming Om Chanting:
Humming causes the air to vibrate, which increases the exchange of air between the sinuses and the nasal cavity. In the humming Om chanting, the “…mmmm…” part of the humming Om creates light vibrations just above the nose area and in the lower forehead area, resulting in a large increase in nasal nitric oxide. The frequency of the Om sound creates resonance in the lower forehead area in-between the eyes. Silence between two humming Om chanting is very important. During this phase, the nitric oxide is dissolved in the blood.
The 28 Brain Chakras: A New Frontier of Consciousness
Traditionally, chakras are thought to be seven centers aligned along the spine. However, Sri Amit Ray’s Ray 114 Chakra System introduces a more expansive framework, with the extended 28 brain chakras specifically in the brain, each linked with unique cognitive, emotional, intuitive, and spiritual functions.
These include:
- 6 Higher Cortical Chakras – governing insight, focus, inner vision, and transcendental cognition
- 7 Limbic Chakras – linked to emotion, memory, and deep intuition
- 5 Brainstem Chakras – controlling breath, survival instincts, and meditative stillness
- 4 Cerebellar Chakras – refining coordination, rhythm, and balance of thoughts
- 6 Temporal & Auditory Chakras – responsible for music perception, mantra absorption, and speech vibration
The gap between two humming Om empties the sinuses and this period of silence allow the NO to accumulate again in the nasal cavity.” – Excerpt from the book “Meditation: Insights and Inspirations” Amit Ray (This material is copyrighted and published by permission from Inner Light Publishers). Bhramari Om Chanting can even change cellular structure.
